Construction Site Dreams
These bottoms started forming on a construction site on Teshima Island during the off-season, when the pulse of tourism had faded. In that quiet, a rare intimacy grew; after a day of working on a site, the local workers invited us into their homes. Over dinner, our conversation shifted from the mundane to deeper reflections on existence and the irony of living in isolation within a hyper- connected world.
At the heart of this memory is the Tobi.
While the fashion world has elevated Japanese workwear to cult status, to the locals, they remain a simple necessity of material and function. This transformation into a „fashion icon" was a source of quiet, humorous irony among the men who actually wore them.
These trousers blend the memory of that night on Teshima with the connected reality of Tokyo. They embody the fusion of two distinct Japanese worlds: the practical honesty of the local labourer and the aestheticised functionality of the modern city.
